Starting Ship?

I was shopping through the RSI website and was curious as to everyone's opinion concerning a starting ship.

My first inclination is to purchase the Rear Admiral's package which nets me the RSI Constellation as far as a ship. (There are a lot of other goodies, too.)

What is the general consensus on this package? Recommendations are certainly welcome!

    Thanks.

  2. it really depends on what you would like to do mani. I know for me I went with 325a and also snagged a bomber, so that almost gets everything I would want to do with two ships. I still might melt the 325 to get a hornet, but i am not sure yet.

  3. as for package, you only need the aurora package to get into alpha/beta. I went with the 80 dollar one (forgot the name)

Well, I am rather eclectic in my tastes and flexible as far as what I would like to do. So I could really start anywhere.

Oh, and nice signature, scrub: μολὼν λαβέ

  5. Like Scrub said, it totally depends on what your intentions are. Don't forget that any ship can be earned in game, though some will obviously be rarer or more expensive than others; so don't feel pressured to buy your penultimate space fantasy ride right off the bat. :)

I went with the Arbiter a couple of months ago and snagged my 325. But I also want to be making some serious bank as quickly as possible. So I'm aiming for the Starfarer (Ability to mine/refine and transport ore/raw materials). It's not being offered as of yet though.

  7. thought you might like that actually. Another option also is do like sent and I are doing. That bomber I am purchasing, I am giving him half ownership of it as well. You can allow others to fly your ships if you feel comfy with it, and since I got LTI on it, he can go hit space trees out in the middle of the galaxy all he wants

The RSI Constellation really has some great starting options. I love the idea of being a free merchant plying my wares across free space. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the feedback so far, guys!

  9. The freelancer is a very good utility choice if you're unsure of your path.

The Constellation is a multi-crewed ship vs a small one person craft, so to get the most out of it you'll be hiring npc crew or having others work the various turrets and stations..

I like the idea of the larger craft, I've just got a focus at the moment on the single seater stuff.. If a Gladiator becomes available again, I'd go with a stable of attack craft and save the larger stuff for goals in game..

Initially I did like Sent and grabbed the Arbiter package, and a 325a, so basically combat missions and fighter escorts for others. I was content with that, though I've been looking into elements of the game more and more, and then things got stupid recently

I guess it's a question of whether you see yourself as Han Solo in a slower bulkier (more heavily armed) craft, or quicker, faster fighter jock?? Whatever suits your play style..

  11. I've put the Rear Admiral package on my Christmas list; of course, there's a PS4 on it as well so I'll have to see if I get both

  12. I originally got the Arbiter but gifted that to a friend who I want to get into game and picked up the Rear Admiral. If I want to do some deep space salvage and mineral surveying why not do it in style in something with big guns, can carry some load, and lets you pop into a fighter when needed.

Figure it'll be easier to start with a big ship to make enough to buy a few small ships than a few small ships trying to make enough to buy a big ship. :)

  13. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can freely "melt" whatever you buy for store credit if you change your mind in the future on which ship you want.

I like Asp's reference to Han Solo. That would fit the play-style I would like for this game. Now to find my Chewbacca.

Oh, and if I need escorts, I can count on ATACs I bet. ;)

Purchased the Rear Admiral's package. I am going to take a look at this hangar feature; looks pretty cool.

Thanks guys, I will hold you to it! Khorne, that is a most excellent reference - love it.

Oh, and it seems the hangar walk-about is having an issue. It is throwing an "unable to load metafile" error. I believe they are working the issue.

  20. I had a lot of issues with the hangar. I finally got them resolved though. Just keep combing the forums for solutions.
