Takkie's Application

Discussion in 'The Dragon Wolves Recruitment Forum' started by Takkie, 25 Jan 2013.

  1. Hello everyone! I'm a bit unfamiliar with forums, so please bear with me if I haven't created a new thread properly :) This is also the first time I do an application for something like this, so if I miss anything, or expand too far, let me know :)

My real name is Marissa, although I prefer being referred to as Takkie, I'm currently a senior in college studying animal behaviour. I live in Maine, and I volunteer in wild animal rehabilitation (animals from the sea, sky, and land). I definitely love talking about them, and love sharing pictures and stories about them.

I love playing video games, and they tend to provide a tiny escape from life for me. While I don't consider myself a gamer, I have been playing games like Pokemon since I've been young. Puzzle games are another favourite of mine. I'm relatively new to FPS', Team Fortress 2 being my first.

Planetside 2 has been a rather interesting experience for me. I get often overwhelmed by the sheer size of it, and can get discouraged if I don't feel as if I am performing well. I'm hoping that, through CDL, I can use the teamwork I've learned in my prior jobs to help me grow and strengthen my skills. I'm very open to learning, but can be very hesitant about running into the middle of a large fire-fight. I enjoy driving tanks, although my navigation skills aren't the best. I value the aspect of teamwork, and am excited to hopefully become a part of this team.

There are a few aspects, however, that could make me a "bad" teammate. My parents can be odd, I don't exactly know how to describe it, and I don't want to go into too many details. If I am asked to go help, it's expected of me to get up and go help or to listen to what's being said to me. Sometimes I can't announce that, even if in the middle of a firefight. This tends to happen earlier in the evening, right after dinner. It doesn't happen everyday, but it also doesn't happen rarely either. Playing with you guys will give you a taste of what it's like.

I also mentioned that I am currently a student, and as I'm sure all of you know, that things can happen. I work on Mondays and Fridays and have class until later in the afternoon on Wednesdays, and the other two weekdays are usually relatively free. However, since I am still applying for jobs, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the two open-house days for the career centre. While I have everything under control now for my applications, I can't guarantee I won't go to the meetings again. I'm very open with telling people that "There's a chance I might not be able to make it" and, if I cannot, I'll end up texting my boyfriend Arrow to have him tell you guys for me. There are times when I won't be able to access my computer to tell you guys myself.

I'm excited to learn the more cooperative side of Planetside 2. I have a feeling that, through playing with a group, it will become a very different, and much more enjoyable game for me. Thanks for your time c:

:hi: Welcome and good luck in the recruiting process! Great that you've signed up with us!

No worries if you can't make it to some nights or you must bow out. We only ask that you let us know. No details are needed really, just that it's real life and you got to go. Real life is more important to all of us over gaming.

  4. I forgot to mention that my in-game name is Takara36, not Takkie.

  5. Welcome and good luck!

Welcome Takkie to the Dragonwolf Recruit Process.
From your application it looks like you're definitely ready to learn the basics of both Planetside 2 and how we operate while playing the game.

Last night was definitely a 'meat grinder' sort of night with the UES going on. I know it can be very overwhelming playing under those sorts of conditions. One thing about this game is that, because of the rebirthing technology, it's rather quick to get back into the fight. So don't worry too much about making a mistake. Just try not to repeat it.

What I would suggest doing is, during off-ops nights, hop into the game and join with our fellow Dragonwolves that are on. If no one else is on, hop in a tank and practice laying down your own waypoints on the map and drive to that location. Unfortunately, GPS technology was left behind on Earth and didn't make it through the worm hole. Places like Amerish and Indar are filled with switchbacks, so it's good practice to get a feel for those places. Esamir is more forgiving in that usually you can get to your waypoint in a straight line.

Start out slow. Ask any question you have. Have patience with us. Together we'll get you fighting right along side Arrow in no time.

  7. Thanks for the input; I'll do my best to try and get on on days other than Fridays to get some practice in. Unfortunately, I can't stay online playing games very late on school nights, and I dedicate Saturdays to doing homework. My parents are kind-of strict and will try and make comments about how much time "waste playing games" when I play a lot on school nights. I'll do my best.

  8. After rereading your comments again- I was confused as to if I made a specific mistake, or if you're simply watching out for me in the future. If it was a specific one, I think I missed exactly what you meant/are referring to.

  9. Yeah, I'unno why GPS technology, aircraft radar, and the like were somehow left behind.

Sentrosi, which sort of navigation are you referring to? Navigation from point A to point B while inside the base, or navigation from base to base?

Just wanting to make sure you're both on the same page =P

  10. Welcome and good luck!

No mistakes made last night Takkie. I recall you saying that you felt constantly lost during the battle. That happens to the best of us. I'm just saying that probably the best thing to do to get you familiar with the continents is to go for a drive somewhere. Get yourself lost and think how I can best get back to where I need to go in the game.

  12. That makes much more sense, thanks! I didn't want to seem like I was shrugging off some constructive criticism on a specific mistake that I was unaware of :p

  13. It's trickier on Indar where there are a lot of cliffs and whatnot; Amerish and Esamir are mostly flat. If you want I can fly you around in a Liberator but if you want the real deal you'd best simply spawn a Flash and drive around.

  14. I might recommend that until you learn the ins and outs of the game that you try to do sniping. It allows you to sit back, relax, get a bead on someone and let it fly.

If you find a partner, it makes it even easier.

  15. Welcome!

  16. Great to meet you, Takkie. :)

  17. Thanks, everyone c:
