Tax Facts - Tax Freedom Day

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Paladin, 22 Jun 2004.

  1. Every year an independent tax watchdog group analyzes
the average tax burden on Americans, and then
calculates the "Tax Freedom Day". This is the day
after which the money you earn goes to you, not the
    government.

This year, tax freedom day was April 11th. That's the
earliest it has been since 1991. It's latest day ever
was May 2nd, which occurred in 2000.

John Kerry recently gave a speech in which he claimed
Americans are actually paying more taxes under Bush,
despite the tax cuts. He gave no explanation and
provided no data for this claim.

Another interesting fact: Both George Bush and John
    Kerry are wealthy men.

Bush owns only one home, his ranch in Texas.

Kerry owns 4 mansions, all worth several million
dollars. (His ski resort home in Idaho is an old
barn brought over from Europe in pieces.
    Not your average A-frame).

Bush paid $250,000 in taxes this year; Kerry paid
$90,000. Does that sound right? The man who wants to
raise your taxes obviously has figured
out a way to avoid paying his own.

Pass this on. Only 202 days until the election.

One problem with that logic. John Kerry doesn't own those homes, his wife does. His wife is actually a widow to some Senator who died in a plane crash. She got most of his $$. John Kerry got married to her and fell into a cash cow, so to speak.

So saying John Kerry owns those homes is misleading.

How can you say those arent "his houses" - he is married to this woman right? Or are they just a civil union?

John Kerry has used his families assets for his political campaign time and time again. John Kerry did not grow up a poor boy in Denver, but a boy experiencing life only the top percentile of youth experience. Ivy league school, French vacations and private education. John Kerry was not 500 million rich like his 2nd wife, but he was not 35K working a assembly line either.

Lets also mention John Kerry is against outsourcing but has no problem spending all the money his 2nd wife makes from Heinz. Heinz with 79 factories which 57 of them are located outside the US.

  4. Actually, he does own them. Depending on the state (or your pre-nuptial agreement) the property that the individuals have before marriage becomes joint property after marriage (same thing goes for debts).

It is possible that Johnny K and his sugar-mama have a pre-nup to exclude pre-existing assets, but any assets acquired during the marriage are co-owned.

John Kerry's wife will not publicly disclose what she paid in Taxes last year which is a bit of a sticky point because Kerry made a big deal over Bush releasing his tax information, but then would not release his own familys.

Teressa Heinz-Kerry got her money the old fashioned way. She inherated it.

Kinda of funny point on the matter, Heinz Co. came out and said that she has nothing to do with running their company, and that they do not support John Kerry for president. They also made a sizeable contribution to the Bush campeign.

April 11th! I wish! Here in the wide expanse above you, it's July 1st this year which was a 4 day improvement from last year. The earliest it's ever been was May 3rd 1961 when they start calculating it. Of course, earlier than that, it would've been less but they started income taxes to help pay for WW1. Guess it's why we gotta pay through the nose to keep up with our southern neighbours with a 10th of the population.

I'm in no way a supporter of John Kerry. Its just that that post is somewhat skewed, in my view of it.

Just as a general statement, I find that many people judge politicians not on their politics, but their personal lives.

This is from an old post by Mijahu which I think helps what I am trying to show:

  11. hehehe wow well its great to see what you all think. I got it in an email from my mother and thought I would post it to see what you all think.

  12. I personally dont like any of the options this election year... but i will vote kerry just to get bush out. Bush has succesfully reversed virtually every environmental advance and protection instituted in the last 50 years or so. This is something which has been kept rather quiet. That, combined with the monumental blunders his government has managed to pull, is enough to get me to want him out. Note, i am neither a democrat or a republican, though i do find the democrats to be a more palatable option than the republicans.

  13. It's the bartender in me...never discuss politics or religion. ;)...

...or how pretty someone's wife is...boy that one was a doozey to get out of!

  14. its over, no more late nights for you ;)

I still will vote this year for

    None of the Above

  16. As the saying goes "If you aren't Liberal when you are young you have no heart and if you aren't Conserative when you are older you have no brain."

The biggest issue is the lack of respect for others political views. I believe what I believe. Nobody is going to make me change my mind by berating me calling me names or trying to make feel guilty. I want to know the facts and make my own choice based upon them about each issue. Not what "they" tell me to think.

If you don't vote you shouldn't bitch. Become involed. Find out the facts, look up information from many sources. An informed voter is the best type of voter.

  18. well said....I don't particulary like Kerry but I ablsolutely do not like Bush. Theres a lot of reasons behind my dislike for bush that may upset some people here so I will keep them to myself ;).

On a lighter and just annoying note: Bush is one of the worse speakers in history. You all know that if you gave speaches of his magnitude your english teacher would have given you a "D". how does this make us look when he goes to other countries and speaks.

and on the note of bush paying more taxes. He owns a large oil company in texas....I hope to god he pays more taxes..
