Technical Help Requested: HD + Win2k install

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Aeternus, 7 Jun 2005.

  1. I'm attempting to install win2k on my new system. Specs as follows:

DFI Lanparty SLI-DR w/latest bios update
    AMD 64 3200+ w/retail HS+fan
1 GB Corsair Value Select Dual Channel
    Seasonic s12 500W PS
    Leadtek 6600GT TDH
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 Sata 250 GB
    Creative Audigy Value sound card

    +dvd drive + floppy

    The Issue:

My os disc is not bootable and I've used win98 boot disc to partition and format a chunk of space (40GB + or - ) and have then loaded up the Win2k CD.

Upon attempting to install the OS on the harddrive, I blue screen and get the following: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

yada yada yada - it tells me to check for updates from manufacturer....yada yada and to disable and caching enabled in bios.

    no caching enabled in bios

I am thinking that the base OS install doesn't like the harddrive? and plan on slipstreaming SP3 or SP4 and burning a new bootable win2k disc, hoping that it will be more agreeable.

Any other suggestions or ideas? The system POSTs just fine and detects the harddrive accurately. Pre-SP3or4? doesn't recognize over 177 GB of HD space, but that shouldn't be an issue on the install.

Microsoft says the error msg is a driver issue, but assumes having the OS already installed - this could be a definate cause, however, even on the install.

  2. Check your ram

  3. I turned memtest86 on before heading to work and after 23 passes I drew 7 errors :(

Sux - ram was fresh out of the packaging and I was grounded while handling it

RMA time - errr...after i get back from vacation i guess

  4. the ram may not have been hurt by you, it could have been damaged before getting to you..
