The Catcher in the Rye

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by PMAN, 19 Dec 2001.

  1. Hey guys.

Sorry that right after you took me into CDLr I kind of dissappeared. It's just been a really crazy (no pun intended) time for me. Its finals week, we just had the big holidays concert, and I started seeing a therapist.

Seems I have a disorder which makes me deathly afraid of rejection to the point where I've become calloused to the world (which I use as a shell to protect myself). It also hurts my friends because I take little things (like them being late) and blow it so far out of proportion in my mind that I have an attack of sorts. My shrink basically said I'm too smart for my own good, I can put two and two together, but after that the sky is the limit, so to speak.

He said that I'm able to see things (people, injustices, social games, and the such) for what they are and it drives me insane.

Well, I'm having a bitch of a time trying to explain this, so I'll try to sum it up in an easier way: If you ever read "The Catcher in the Rye," I am Holdin Caulfield. If you never read the book, just click his name for a brief synopsis.

Well, I've started to bable now. All I really wanted to say here was that I'll be back in full next week when school is over.

I think I will pick up that book. The guy sounds a little like me.

  5. Everyone should read Catcher in the Rye. One of my favorite books, one of the only ones in High School that I actually read that I was meant to....

I love reading books, except when people tell me I have to, then for some reason I can almost never make myself read the book....

    I'm weird like that.

PMAN, good luck with figuring out who you are....its a problem we all face. :D

  6. I tried reading that book, but it didn't interest me back then, course I was only 12 years old. But now, it might. Who knows?
