  1. I am and have been an Nvidia fan for years. Never used ATI/AMD graphics cards. But I am beginning to wonder if it isn't time to think about it based on a comment by Chris Roberts himself in regards to AMD's Mantle Technology:

"AMD's Mantle will allow us to extract more performance from an AMD Radeon GPU than any other graphics API," Chris Roberts, CEO, Cloud Imperium Games.

Not sure how much better Mantle will make things.

Of course then there is Nvidia's G-Sync technology. Almost seems G-Sync is the better route to go but I am not sure. Any thoughts on this at all?

  2. Yeah I am really interested in both features. Likely leaning towards mantle but it will all depend on what the performance differences are in Alpha and Beta. Right now I run a 7970 in home machine and GTX580 in work. I seem to get more artifacts in the hanger module with the 7970. Will have to look at both again today.

  3. CR has also said he will not play favorites with the graphics companies, so go with whatever you like :)

  5. Brand loyalty is fruitless in my opinion. I'm an opportunistic buyer. Make the best product and I'll buy it.

Any way you slice it, I'd suggest saving up any upgrade budget and spending it as close to launch time as possible. You'll only get more bang for your buck that way.

  6. Yeah I know he wouldn't play favorites but I was just wondering between the two technologies would be better since he was going to incorporate Mantle support into the game. Just sounded like from his quote that Mantle was definitely something worth checking into.

Yes Sent PhysX is awesome I agree, but according to what I am reading about Cry Engine 3..it has its own PhysX built in so there is no benefit from Nvidia's.

As for brand loyalty, I wouldn't say I am a Nvidia loyalist but through the years I have had no problems with Nvidia and haven't really had a reason to change until Mantle. I have never been a SLI or Crossfire guy as I have never had the money to put but a good mid level card in my systems. And there was a time for a while when running a couple games I have had they didn't like ATI at all. Seemed the developers definitely leaned more toward Nvidia..but that has been a while ago.

Mantle while it sounds like a fabulous thing will be dependent on the developers coding their games to use it where as G-Sync will be able to improve things for all games as long as you are running I believe the GTX 600 series or newer and you have to have a gaming monitor as well with the right specs for it.

And Khorn you make a very valid point about waiting as close to launch as possible to get the upgrade. I will definitely be keeping my eye on both vendors to see whats to come in the future.

  7. I agree with Khorne. It all depends on what is available for the best price, when I'm available to purchase. I do have manufacturers that I lab towards, but even lately with warranty durations being equalized and less thought of brands, coming out with some interesting goods(galaxy 780 HOF edition anyone?). I'm glad to be a consumer, as long as both brava ate being competitive.

  8. I seriously doubt Mantle will be used by Nvidia but time will tell. If I had to buy today I would be going Nvidia. AMD hasn't shown any reasons as of yet to use them. But will see come closer to release :)

  9. If you do decide to buy today without a doubt check out the reviews on the AMD R290. I say this as the current owner of 2 Nvidia cards.... It's a BEAST!

  10. I only stick with Nvidia because someday maybe eventually down the road at some point I'll buy the hardware to use 3DVision
