what is that noise??

    okay, here i am, minding everyone elses business reading the forums and my computer makes this noise at me, like a person screaming or something silly like that. I am wondering if anyone can tell me why it does that ?? its a bit annoying, but more than anything i am curious as to why it is doing it. if anyone knows let me know :)

    sorry your so bored! at least you have a computer to keep you slightly entertained!!! at work i just read smut novels to pass the time. go to work for about 9 hours, work for 4 and paid for ten :)

    Whining high pitched scream...that would either be children, husband shutting body parts in drawer, or a bad fan bearing. :eek:

    I still dont know why it makes that sound? or what it is!! is there not anyone out there that actually knows ?????? is it a new post going up or something????

    most likely a bad bearing in one of your fans....or somthing small is in one of em and getting hacked at by the fan

    uhmm.. its a sound effect :) so i dont think that is it :) but thank you for at least giving me an honest answer :) unlike the rest of them :)

    i am just curiuos what triggers it

    A sound effect? Is it some type of warning sensor? Or is it your soundcard acting up? Can you describe the process from start to finish as to how and when it occurs?

    well it is like a man yelling yahooo.. or a bullet being shot sound. and i dont know, its only when i am viewing the forums.

    Did you try unplugging your computer (while it is off), and back in again? I don't know if it would help, but that is what people did after I gave a school computer a large static shock (from outside the case) and then the monitor turned black, the fans stopped, and the motherboard started making a beeping sound. After plugging it back in, it worked fine.

    okay so the sound has been identified ( i have a hard time using links with my web browser so i just finally got to looking at it ) it is indeed the spinning cow. now what sets that off ? i will hear it randomly!!! i am just curious!

    silly spinning cows!

    If not a fan it might even be your monitor. Just try turning it off to check :p my old crapy monitor would make a very high pitched hissing/screaming noise at times (like a dog wistle or something) Usualy when viewing forums with light backrounds such as this one. Also games/programs with bright areas over a large part of the screen, even a bright desktop would have it act up.

    Not sure exectly what caused it, but it was definatly linked to the brightness of the screen and the refresh rate. My eyes go nuts if i have a refresh rate of anything less then 85 hz or so, but lowering it to about 75hz would always fix it, or just changing color schems to something darker would as well.

    Mig, we have a guy in the CDL who uses a signature that has a sound effect like you are describing. To check it, go to this post: Noise

    If you hear it, then you have just confirmed it is -CDL-Oed's signature. ;)
