Great Dane THE LEGENDARY BANNED</

I'm not sure why I am posting this here. Maybe because I called this home for so long. Maybe because I think it's a place where my friends might read it. I'm not sure.

I have always beleaved that online gaming was about friends. I joined a clan so that I could hang out and play with my friends. We might win some, and we might lose some, but we got to hang out togeather have a few beers and a few laughs. It was those friendships that kept me coming back despite a win/loss record.

Over time things seemed to change. My friends no longer seemed content to just play and have a good time. Friendship was no longer enough. Winning became all that was important. To the point where people I had known for years, people that had fought through the hard times side by side with me turned their backs. Even the team that I had been with for over a year changed. Winning became more important then the friendships we had forged. All of my closest friends seemed to change, some quit talking to me, or maybe I quit talking to them. I'm not really sure anymore.

What I am sure of is that I have less friends today then I did a year ago. The constant loss of friendship over the last few months has worn me out, and I have no desire to continue. I'm angery that my friends have gone to other teams. I'm angery that my friendship ment so little to them all. I hate the teams they play for, for stealing their friendship from me, and I don't like being like that. If they are happy then I should be happy for them.

After all the agner and sorrow I am left at a crossroads. I will never be able to go back to the way it was, and I lack the desire to forge a new future. It hit me last night. My online gaming carrer has come to an end.

So to all of you that have been my friends at one point or another, I wish you the best of luck in gaming and in life. It's been an honor and a privledge getting to know you all over the last few years.

Take care of yourselves.

2. dane my old friend, you will be sorely missed. Even though we have not talked as much as we used to, I still consider you a friend and am sad to see you go. You have my icq and if you ever are needing to talk, drop me a line and we will talk........later days my friend

3. Take care dane.

5. Losing is never fun & it sucks losing with friends just as bad as losing on your own. I see your frustration about clans who strive to win, the problem is that T2 is a game entirely built around competitive ladders, competitve servers & competitive players. A group of friends who want to play T2 together have no choice but to join a competitive ladder. As soon as they join that ladder, they enter a competitive and hostile environment. For a team to fully fit into the T2 community it must not just foster friendships, it must also strive to compete and at the heart of competition is the desire to win.

There's a necessary balance between keeping friends, and running a winning organization in online games. Friendship is important to winning, and winning is important to keeping/gaining more friends from the T2 community. If a team sucks and loses all the time, it does not fit into the competitive community of T2. Potential friends from the community will be turned off by the lack of effort put forth by that team and won't join. Existing players and friends who can't stand losing all the time will quit. Alternatively if a team is full of people who don't work well together or can't be friendly with each other, there is no way for them to work together at a level necessary to win. It's nearly impossible for a group of people to work together and get solid results unless they work quickly together without arguement to get the job done.

Wanting to win, and being friends, can and do peacefully co-exist with one another. Some people say that friendships are made stronger in winning teams. Example: Ever hear of Armed Forces Special Operations team members on the same squad who stick together their entire lives and even after they leave the service, would still risk their own lives for friends they served with? The level of working together & teamwork that guys on a winning team have to reach is amazing. It's that working together, playing together, & spending time together to accomplish a goal that builds strong bonds. I've met some of the best online friends I've ever had like Manitou, Doomhawk, etc. in-game during Tribes and other games going over a ski route or talking about a new capping trick.

Anyways I'm Sorry to see you go away from games. You will probably be back some day in the future. :) GL with your future affairs!

6. Hmmmmm

Dane , CDL strecthes to many games not just Tribes and as a friend and a Clan mate remember you dont have to only be tribes.
I dont think Tribes or any game should be all about the win. You can play tribes with people and not have to be just the 7 man or competition teams Dane. Just remember that At the same time you dont want to , we must give Credit to those who do and back them for their efforts and still give them love. Ilove the fact that our clan as a whole is not so narrowminded to be a 1 game clan and that itself helps add life to it. I love alot games and would hate to see you go because of one. :D

And for those of us who arent on the tournment lvl , we all should remember that the ones that do put in so much effort have credit where credits due. And the ones in DAOC or any of the other games also represent CDL with Honor and together we all make up a truely Great Clan and Friends that have lasted yrs and i hope many more to come.

7. Dane,

You seem really down, you have for a long time, I know some of this thats happened hasn't helped, but even when everything was going well you were down. Have you ever thought to talk to someone or see a doctor? I'm being totally serious here, not everyone has to be a manic depressive, but there are lesser forms of depression that are often times physical. You might want to talk to your doctor about feeling down, there is nothing wrong with it or to be ashamed and often times they can help a lot.

That aside. CDL has changed, yes. But many of us are still here, and many more still drop by from time to time. Hamma, KO, MuTeD. They all show up and say hi.

We are still here Dane and I am still your friend. I've waited a long time to write too you because I thought that you would come to your senses and come back. Arguments, dissagreements, and differing points of view do on unmake friends, at least not in my book. It is ok to be angry with someone, you can still be their friend. Yes I know some people have moved on, but what friends have you lost? Schrike is sill here, Praetor, Pump, me, mani, lots of us Dane. KO is around, if you want to keep in contact, that choice is up to you.

I don't think any of us here at CDL are glad you left and we would all welcome you back with open arms. Just because your view of where the 7 man team should go might not the the immediate direction that it is going, doesn't mean that you cannot be part of CDL. There are many things to do here, 7 man team....dare I say DAOC.

To me the most important thing is the friendships. It saddens me that I don't spend as much time with people from T2 as I used to. My wife used to ask daily how Arg was doing b/c he and I spent so much time together. I miss that. But I am still here and we can shoot the shit every once in a while and he is still my friend. I have become closer to doomy and mij, Shads has joined DAOC and I'm looking forward to getting to know him better.

At the same time here on the forums and in pubs I keep up with all the T2ers who I consider my friends. As long as there is a CDL I will be here. I truly mean that. I will be here keeping in touch with people no matter what game I or they play. To me, it is about friendship.

So friend, if you are down and you are feeling it, look for help, I mean that, for a long time now you have not been upbeat. If you are seeking friends, new and old, I and we are still here. You will always be welcomed while I am here, and I will always be here. I won't promise to agree with you, but I will promise to be your friend despite the differences we have and because of them. Diversity is the spice of life.

So, if you choose to move on, do so with a happy heart, not a heavy one. If you are having to tear yourself away, why are you going? Find a way to have fun playing a game, but a game is just that, a game. We are here as friends, what the game is in immaterial. But if you go, go knowing that you do have friends here, that we will be here if you ever come back. Know that just because you don't play games, doesn't undo our friendship. Know that you have made at least one CDL players life a lot more entertaining. The good times by far out weight the bad.

Good luck in whereever the path leads you, but know that you always have friends here, always.

Rayz.

8. Dane, I understand what your saying, I miss competition but I still get to play computer games, cause thats where it all began. Hell, I played computer games long before the internet became mainstream. I played a lot of games before multiplayer was ever even a consideration, And I had a lot of fun. I suspect the same was for you too. Well, I hear what your saying but does this mean youll never play another game of EE with the "boyz" or what about a little NWN or whatever the next fun "casual" game that comes along is. Fine, competition online gaming got you frustrated then let it go, but I implore you to continue to have fun playing computer games for what they were meant for, FUN! And once in a while that can include some online games like EE or whatever. BTW did you ever play Myth2? :)

9. Great Dane,

I understand and respect your decision totally, You are one of the old guard and there will be a place for you within the hallowed halls of the Tribes Veterans. It was a pleasure and a great honor to play with you when I did. Your standing on the battle field was always one of ferociousness and honor.

Please come back and visit from time to time. Even though that you have decided to retire, you still have many friends here that will always be here and that will always remember you.

You have made the decision to move on, Never forget what you have done and what you have accomplished. What we do in life echoes in eterinty...

I salute you old friend, May the wind be at your back and blow strong as you travel forward in your life.

Cruiser wishes you a hearty farwell, He wishes the best for your future endevors.

Farewell Great Dane,

WinterKnight

10. Dane - you never lost a friend here - you have and always will be my friend. Once a wolf - Always a wolf and you will always have a place to call home here. Without change, life become stagnent and withers. Somtimes the direction of your path becomes unclear - mine certainly has over the years. Just know that this is a place you can ALWAYS come to, sit and rest, and be amoungst friends. All I can do is wish you the best and assure you that no matter what life throws your way, CDL goes on and the friends you made here are still and always will be you friends.
And we'll be here. Maybe for some this ia just a video game with a group on online players. But to me - it is a group of some the finest caring people I have ever had the previledge of knowing and my life is better for it Know that you are one of these people and always will be. I wish you all best - may the path lead to succes and prosperity. Should the path become rough, know that you can always come here, sit and rest with friends for now and for always - 'Tis Good to be CDL and your name will always adorn the hallowed Halls of the Dragonwolves Lair as Honored Warrior and friend. Take Care Doggy - till we see you again.

11. Ok, since they all took what i was going to say....Ditto!:p GD, you've always been my friend, probably the 1st friend besides Muted, wait....u WERE the first friend when I came to CDL. /me slaps Muted;) I remember you helping me out with stuff on WoodyMyrk when i first joined, telling me some tricks in the book about HOing even though I wasn't a HO. We'd duel a little, u in HO gear, me in light gear. All those memories will never go away, neither will you little doggy. Your decision, i respect that. I've thought about it many times too. NEwayz, may the future lead you in the right direction. I only ask 1 thing from you though, that you keep coming into mIRC as much as possible so we can chat and mess around. Personally, I don't think you deserve the golden milkbone. I think you deserve the PLATINUM milkbone enscribed with the name GREAT DANE. Lol, bout all I have to say, keep healthy and even though your a little pup, u still need your vegetables. Take care.

12. Hey Big Dawg

Hey Big Dawg,

Dane, You and I go back a long long way....From T1 when I was CDL and you were KM we use to work as opposing forces on scrimmage back in the days of end.

I know I push very hard to get you and the crew into CDL cause I made such good friends with the KM aka DOB crew back then in T1.

Seems like the good ol' days are faraway even though it just seems like yesterday.

I remember the days of playing as CDL side by side....DANE and DRAGONS Defense Systems Online :)

Through out the times you've always supported me and my causes and my actions and I have always honored that and have been blessed and thankful for that.

I do miss our long ICQ chats and I will always be a friend regardless where our paths haven taken us.

SALUTE - MY FRIEND

DRAGON

13. You think too much Dane!

You got bored with this game, you got frustrated with losses, and you stuck it out for as long as you could stand it.

You were and still are a friend, I have offered you a spot to come play along side of me just like the old days. Come win or loose one thing I realized when I left CDL and became a player in a #1 clan was that winning doesnt mean shit if your not there to share it with people you enjoy hanging out with!

Does it take practise, no!
Does it take intrest in the game Hell yes!

I think thats one of the biggest things people dont realize, great teams are made of of 3 things;
1) Enjoying the game!
2) Playing it and learning!
3) Having friends that enjoy it too!

The door is always open Dane its upto you to step inside.

Your old friend KO :)
