When?

  1. When will game companies join the 21st century? As I sit here installing LoTR2 BfME on 6 friggin CD's I am reminded of the bad old days of 10+ 3.5" floppies for a game and remembering the good old days when game companies made the jump to CD ROM. When are we going to be able to get games on DVD ROM without having to pop for the "Collectors Edition"?

Pretty much when DVD Media is as cheap as CD Media.

  3. Its part cost (DVD's aren't much more in cost than CD's)
It also boils down to the decision of Marketing & the retailers. Also, if EA decides do place titles on DVD - I suspect many will follow suit, as was demonstrated with the mini-boxes. That is...so long as EA remain the giant of the gaming industry that they are.*

    * I give EA a few more years to be the giant they are. They are slowly beginning to lose their position, one chip at a time. I suspect they will remain a leader in the industry, but unless they turn a few things around (and soon) they will no longer be so far out in front.

  4. I honestly can see that title switching to someone like NCSoft or Codemasters. They seem to have a hand in just about everything that's "cool" nowadays.

  5. NCSoft is having a bit of a struggle as well. Depends upon how their next 3-4 titles ship I think.
