The chance to see a team, made up of different people who bring different strengths (and weaknesses), accomplish something together that they could not accomplish apart.

Then to see them become friends doing it.

Plus the ability to fly a Tie Fighter against a human opponent, then to see human opponent crushed into bantha fodder. (X-wing vs Tie Fighter was my first online game)

  8. Starcraft's campaign got boring, so I explored more features on it and found this, this Battle.Net. Human players, clans, Channel wars, they were so fun. Then my online friends introduced me to Warcraft 3, and soo following to last year '05 I explored WoW near Fall. Then I tried FPS's like Halo, and Bf2. I'm now hooke don many games. I guess you owe it to my dad for buying starcraft on his fathersday, which is today, wow....Thats kinda cool. Its a wonder on how things work out.

    Ftw I'm Scoldingice on WoW.

    We're all similar creatures, huh?

I was drawn in by a new game, and captivated by the personalities, the intelligence, the humor and intrigued with being able to communicate online and find common ground with people from all over the place in all walks of life.

i briefly played tribes 1, quake, etc, but only at friends houses cos i didn't have a computer or i didn't have a good enough computer, or i had dialup

i started with tribes 2 cos snook was pissing me off. it was either kill him or join him.

  11. At my first job they played this game called "Doom" at lunch... it was my first online, multiplayer game. I worked with the same crew for a few jobs. We burned through Doom, Doom II, Descent, Descent II, Civ Online, and a few golf games... after that it was all downhill. :D

I enjoy playing with and against other people, makes the game more interesting. AI, no matter how good, still has predictable patterns and can be beaten by persistance. A good player, will let you think that, then BFG/SpinFuse/etc. yo @$$ in the little bitty pieces. :)

  12. Tribes 2 was my first multiplayer online game.

I grew up playing console games primarily and only had played a handful of titles for the PC.

My cousin, who lived in Virginia Beach at the time and I only saw once or twice every couple of years was telling me about this game Tribes 2 at a family reunion and how much fun it was.

I remember the first time I logged on and found him in game. It was surreal to me that we could communicate and game together even though we were hundreds of miles apart. Then I found myself blown away by realizing that every person on my team and that I was fighting against was a player just like me.

    I was hooked.

I always played solo, two years I played Tribes 2 solo - for whatever reason never really finding the need to find a clan. That was until I played with and against Thronebeast and CrawlingKane in a pub server. I was blown away by their style of play and applied - I'll never forget the feeling of match play, practicing and playing with a team. These guys were good and my game improved tenfold. These guys were also great to be around. Tribes 2 was the catalyst - Planetside really was fullfilling in a team warfare situation and the Dragon Wolves were the best.

I'll never go solo again.

  13. Doom was my first online game. I could play against other humans that reacted differently. Some were smart and some were dumb. That what is better than than an AI bot that may need cheat in order to win.

  14. there were other games that you could play online but Tribes is what really changed the entire online gaming era.

I would give one of my computers for a game that was as good as tribes was. I feel like a person whos about to die talking about the good old days. I just haven't seen anything that looks as good as it did yet.

  15. grab a cushion...story time!!!

i was over at a buddies house...sitting around drinking whatnot...and they just got this game called "doom"...i liked to watch them shoot stuff....i was the backseat shooter...."look out!!!" "over there!!!" "JUMP!!!" needless to say..they made me play...oh..i never really wanted to..i just liked to watch (no comments please) they were just tired of my suggestions during gameplay...they eventually moved...hrrmm..i sure hope i had nothing to do with that...

one day i went over to nectars house...they had a little lan set up in thier den...4 fellas living in the house had all thier systems hooked up/set up on a conference table...that was my introduction to tribes 1.....Wow!!! thats what i thought...this game is amazing!!! never before had a seen a game where teamwork was essential...and the graphics!!! and what you could do with your avitar!!! this pov is so cool!!! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!!!! keep in mind i had come from games like baldurs gate...nwn...hell i even enjoyed being a god in populus...i remember going to nectars house and making him play so i could watch...and offer helpful advice to my gaming friends...and again..they tossed me in the chair to make me stfu...<--- (first "leet" speak i knew right off the bat...i think that was just essential)

so there i was in raindance...light armor...and stuck..i could not get up and out of the friggin base!!!! thats when i reconsidered the neatness of this pov..."wtf?? (my second leet speak word) this sucks!!" eventually i made it out of the base only to get killed and had to repeat the process over again...after awhile..i said screw it and ran around in spawn gear...

i learned there was a whole sub-culture of people out there....it was amazing...where else could you be exposed to so many people from such varying lifestyles, ages, and even countries? and working together...teamwork on a level that would make many businesses, swat teams and bomb squads green with envy...and that piqued my interest...i wanted to be a part of that...

so...here i am....years later...games later and many many dear friends later...i am a part of something that is very important to me...something that has allowed me to forge friendships that would not have been possible had it not been for a silly computer game...
