World Aids Day Dec. 1st

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by testflight, 2 Dec 2006.

  1. Well..it came and it passed...hardly a peep out of anyone.....i will admit to not realizing it untill late last night when I finally got around to scouring the news...

Nations all over the world did their own thing to help bring about more awareness of this horrible disease...yes...I know we are all aware of it...but how aware really? i for one am guilty as the next person for not doing anything..thinking...what can i do? im one person? well...fortunatly we have many people who do NOT feel that way...but unfortunatly we still have many who do...in this romanesque society we live in nothing should be beyond our grasp...but it seems that human compassion and the willingness to help is...be it some beaten wife...some drug addict...famine...or some family living with aids in africa...

im not trying to preach here...many of you know i dont' really have causes...i mostly argue points or issues for the sheer enjoyment of inetellectual conversation...but this goes beyond my intellectual stimulation...for some reason..this hit me like a brick to the head...i was sad...the images and stories that we hear of people living and dying with/from aids goes beyond any petty TRUTH commercial...and it made me feel so damn small...it made me want to do something...anything...now im not going to be one of those hardcare activists folks...its not in me...but i do thank god that it is in others...i know its not much...but im gonna get on the bracelet bandwagon...i know its ten dollars for a silly little jelly bracelet and that may seem like a lot for something like that...but in the long run...how expensive is it?

I posted the link to the bracelets below if anyone else is interested in statistics...or just basic information on what you can do if you want to help...or if you just feel as uninformed as i do about all this aids stuff...

    im getting the charcoal jelly...

We had one of the local AIDS charities try to declare a state of emergency for the city of Albany due to the AIDS pandemic. And, of course, our mayor refused to hear them. So they went on the local news and told us that, in Albany, about 50% of the black community has HIV. That's an incredible statistic considering how relatively small Albany is.

  4. Wow sent, that is amazing....

and test ;) everyone has causes that touch their hearts, and even in some small way, you just posting it is making a difference somewhere :) nice post :)

i am big on breastcancer awareness. cancer runs on the womens side in my family very strongly. i have a very good friend whose daughter fought and beat it, and another friend whose mom did. so i am very close to this. it is hard watching someone go thru the things that they have to go thru :) Aids is not any different. it is something that someone goes thru and just ravishes your immune system.

Thank you Test for caring :)
