xp pro question(s)

    For those who have more xp then I with this OS.
    I was having trouble getting my nwn hosted game to show up on the gamespy server list. Do I have too tell windows firewall to let gamespy through? nwn is on the exception list, but I never thought to look for gamespy.
    Installing drivers question. With older OS's I've been able to install video and audio drivers via that companies installation program. But I've noticed that xp pro hasn't applied my vid cards drivers unless I go directly to the device in the hardware list and ask xp too upgrade the driver. Is this something that is common with xp?
    I like the OS so far, but I'm finding myself wrestling with certain installation aspects that I haven't had to deal with before.

    Probably. Check with the gamespy website on firewalls and ports needed.
    No not normally, however with XP you will find you have much better success if you uninstall the previous versions of drivers, reboot, and then install the newer ones - ESPECIALLY video drivers - they are notoriously fussy about such things.

    Also always DL the most up to date driver packages for XP from the companies website :D

    That is what I originally did Hamma. But I found newer drivers for board away from MSI's website....strange but true.
    When I installed my video drivers, I did not remove the old. Nor did I reboot until after I installed the new drivers. Then I had that wonderful windows 95 retro look going. Couldn't change it until I updated the drivers as I explained above. Thanks for your help.
    I'll look into my problems with nwn/gamespy. Thanks for your input(s) marsman and hamma!
