Honestly, I wish he would do a stint in the military. Do a two year in the Navy and see something besides the midwest. Less chance of playing bullet-stop in the navy.

I pointed out to him the other day that if he had done this in the first place, he'd be 6 months from getting out and headed into college. He didn't have a lot to say.

Yesterday I saw him jogging, so maybe he finally realized sitting around waiting for something to happen won't make it happen.

Not a thing wrong with military service, and several advantages. If he has some aptitude or interest in something, he could get a jump on a career. Navy is great for this sort of thing; many different skillsets are required on an aircraft carrier -- mechanics, electricians, computer technicians, machinists, all kinds of skilled labor that can help with a career afterwards. In the end, experience with something counts for more than a college degree does.

All the vets/active duty people can attest to this. When you go to a job, that's exactly what it is, a job. When you go to your military rate/rating/etc, it becomes much more than just a job. I have yet to experience anything in my civilian life that can compare to walking into your shop and having the Chief Maintenance Officer call you up on the 'bitch box' saying they need LC-2 up for a mission and you're the only one in the shop. You get your tools and head out to the line, troubleshoot and fix the problem, then watch LC-2 take off on it's mission knowing you were integral in getting that bird launched. I miss those days badly!
