Camp Humphreys Korea - Protest 2005

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Bick, 10 Jul 2005.

  1. I would hate to be the start of an arguement but don't you think there is a difference between disagree and essentially attacking a military post, injurying korean police officers who have nothing to do with the matter and vandelizing the very barracks i sleep in and equipment i work with. Don't get me wrong the publicity is what they are after but i hope they read what people have to say, in my eyes the jokes on them.

Personally I am all for pointing out idiots like Cavuto did. I just see Incompetent's point.

By the way, that saying I added is something he is famous for on TS. :D

  3. Well i tend to disagree with you guys, and i understand the point hes trying to make. If it were a peacefull protest where they just stated there opoinions and made there voices heard there would be nothing to talk about and i would agree. But thats not what happened, You didn't have to see the blood coming from peoples ears and my uniform covered in blood after trying to help these people. Something needs to be said and DONE.

  4. Oh this specific incident is pretty high on the idiot factor on there part, if they can't keep it peaceful it does more harm then good for the protesters cause anyway. This is a situation where a nice, dispassionate analysis of events and then taking the next exit for the high road is the way you get points from the rest of the world. The big guy can't beat up the little guy without looking like a thug, it doesn't matter why he does it.

I was just bitching about the general tone of the article ealier, not this specific event.

  5. Well i read the article also and I'm very sure although he means alot of what hes saying it is sarcasm.

but anyway, i know what you mean i just found if offensive due to the serverity of the matter and it's my father who posted that artical. I don't take kindly to people insulting my pops.

  6. "Incompetent", (Your appellation, not mine)

Perhaps you do not even realize it, but you have labeled Sentrosi, Main and I (and anyone else who may happen to see the point of and agree with it in the referenced “commentary”) as "degenerates". If this fact eludes you, perhaps you should work on using your brain a bit more than letting emotions rule your thought processes.

I’d ask for an apology, but doubt very much it would be heartfelt and thus would be worthless.

Spouting off with obscenities and insulting name calling is not one of the better ways to sway others to your point of view, which I do not feel has received proper consideration.

What we have read by Mr. Cavuto was laced with a good dose of sarcasm and a bit of tongue-in-cheek. Failing to see that indicates more worldly experience is in order. It was “commentary” written to evoke a response, and to sell add space on a web site. Getting that worked up over something so trivial may pass with the years.

As I stated, less eloquently, in a previous posting to this thread is that the ones who are behaving like “ten year old whose parents have to much money” are the protestors. As Bick pointed out, the majority of which did not even know what they were protesting.

I do not participate on many web message boards due to the preponderance of individuals who do not know how to present an opposing view in a mature and rational manor. Has this board become such as that?

Side note: Bick wrote his reply as I was writing mine. Thanks Son!

    Double standards for the win!!!
It's also the face the rest of the world sees.

Acting like a condescending asshole does not evoke friendly responses.

    I would also add
I would also add that "Mr." Cavuto's apparently supports abandoning these people too.

Okay, now that we have all posted our feelings and thoughts on this subject, and also vented a bit at each other, I want to take this opportunity to remind each CDL who you are and what you represent.

I expect each of you to conduct yourselves from this point on in an honorable manner worthy of the tag you wear. I am all for freedom of speech, but with great freedom comes great responsibility. Mind your manners and stay within a respectful range.

    :)

  9. Flaming Dragon DFAC for the win! :D

  10. What your not understanding is that is SARCASM. But I guess you don't understand that concept. You insist on useing what everyone else has to say to create a horrible attempt at insulting me and/or my father. I see you worked really hard on that. The point of this was that what happened here is a disgusting display of protest. Many people were seriously injured. It was an attack on a US military post and you say suck it up and drive on, I live here. So the next time someone attempts to break into your home and breaks windows and kicks the shit out of you would you have the same opinion then? And your one to say that noone seems to like it when government takes your land, when its none of those protesters land. The land that is being sold to the US is being bought by the korean government from the farmers who dont seem to mind. And those who are protesting should be voicing there opinions to the Korean Government if they feel these farmers are not getting enough money. Of course there will always be someone who disagrees, but there are ways, times and places to express your opionins. I understand the point you posted. But to me this doesn't apply. Your baseing everything your saying from a small sarcastic article and a 1 picture you saw attached to another post. Maybe before you speak up again you should stop and think about what really happened here. There goal was to come on post and to destroy shit and to hurt people. Roughly 10,000 people to the 3,000 soldiers currently at this post. I don't know, I'm really sorry i ever posted about it in the first place. I could have gone without this.

  11. hmm

First and foremost this is a Public forum and the cussing should be cut off from the start. Secondly we all have the right to form an opinion and it does'nt mean the other person is right or wrong. I would say that both sides have points. Hell even the People of Koreahave a valid right to be upset, although the protest should have been with their goverment and not our soliders. Bick im glad you were'nt injured and i hope things get cleared up. Big protests almost always end up volient as the croud incites behavior that the indivisaul would never do alone. Lastly we as CDL at the very least respect each other not to flame in an open forum , and at the most not subject the public to it. Im very disappointed and comeing from me it hopefully hits home.

  12. shadow and mani your right and i edited my post to remove the foul language.

side note i also wrote that final post of mine during your post so i was not ignoring you.

agreed this is not the place for this. as if there really is a place for this at all

Oh, it is fine to discuss politics and world situations and our opinions of them! I have no problem with that at all, Bick! It's when the posts begin to deteriorate into flame-fests and disrespect of others on a personal note do I begin to scrutinize what is going on.

We all feel passionately about some things, but the ability to converse publically in a respectful manner is key to good debate.

  18. Om

    Om DragonWolf

How about we just send South Korea the bill for our troops being present there to protect them. They can divvy it up amongst themselves and we'll use that to fund the land required for our base. I'd really like a dollar comparison. Any way to get ahold of that info?

So. Korean government knows it's making out well here. Every South Korean I've met (and I've met many) expresses love for the US and knows we're keeping their freedom in tact. They bring it up themselves to me. It's the radical few, those who haven't known the pain and the death-maybe rich, spoiled, naieve, who make the job harder for our guys in uniform.

  19. Dude, this really sucks.

Stuff like this makes it harder for me to score with hot korean girls.

    Damnit!
