So basically you can try an download the patch as a standalone file, or download what should have been in place on File Planet in the first place.

I am ready to zip-tie some fan boys to a pier at low tide.

"Why is anyone complaining? It's a beta after all! This is what beta is!"

That you had to pay to get into and that they knew how many could be trying to get in. Plus this is probably the part you shouldn't have had break. When you test drive a car you don't spend 8 hours opening and closing the door.

I totally understand this is beta, but it is 2 weeks to launch. This ain't beta, this is release candidate.

The only thing that keeps me from canceling and walking away is that CoH was a blast, and the guys that are in say it is worth it.

  2. Yeah it was pretty frustrating last night. I tried for hours moving files around, downloading different clients, running update over and over and watching it just stop and never move again. At least they should be learning from their mistakes and fixing them...

I'm at 50% of the new download. I might actually get to play today.

PS, make sure you uninstall and delete the old cryptic directory before installing the new one.

I guess it leaves a couple files behind that makes the new install think it needs to patch itself.

Yeah, I got in about 4am last night (didnt have to be at work until 3pm today) so I played until about 8am and had a lev 9 character.

Gotta say, I played CoH for about 6 months, from launch onward. And this blows it out of the water, there are ALOT of similarities (as it should be, made by the same company) but there is also alot of additional things that CoH lacked. I never played CoH/CoV so I never had a chance for PVP, but this is pretty damn fun.

It doesnt remind me of a MMO at all, more of a console action game set in a MMO world. With everyone around and the fighting style and graphics, guess thats a good thing.

I got a lev 9 Munitions expert, but will probably respec to a more munitions=dps and a hybrid=healing and CC character. That way I will have the best of both worlds for PVP.

Anyways, looking good. I can see this taking up alot of my time for at least the new few months, after that, we will see.

I also pre-ordered Fallen Earth, and I played that in closed beta, it has its good things but its just a little lacking in a few departments. Hopefully that will change as I already sunk my $50 in it, as most MMO's they either adapt or burn out.

okie dokie. Finally got in and played for a few hours.

First, my machine can't handle it. It does OK, but my frame rate is horrid.

It is good. Interesting how they gave powers a charge up, so it isn't just button mashing. Missions are like WoW. Not bad, but obvious that they copied it.

Costume creator is a step above CoH. Very powerful. I can say, this will be a tough game for DC and Marvel to beat.

  7. Was getting server down most of the night. Got in and up to level 5 and through the intro stuff, then it crashed on me and now says server is down. Their account server can't handle the traffic.

Servers clearly taking a beating and the graphics need to be optimized more. Menu's are clunky. Missions are kind of blah. Combat is ok but still pretty CoH.

Lots of cool classes and custom class is pretty nice option. Character creator is just nuts. I'll keep plugging away at it but its 50/50 so far.

I have to ask. Did anyone else notice there is just one gigantic world? There aren't dozens of server worlds, just the one.

They seem to segment it instead like when they would have a major event in a zone. You would have sub zones of a location. I wonder how that effects teaming?

Very interesting idea. No more "what shard are you on", it's one place. I could see a built in team-recall feature that would just pull everyone to the same place.

Also, I see what people mean about the costumes missing options. I have to say, I think they aren't showing everything in the beta. I couldn't find regular pants. Tights, skin and zombie were the choices. I can't believe they would leave out skirts and cuffed pants.

For faces, they didn't have skull face paint. Which meant I couldn't make a good Baron Samedi.

Even weirder, "Baron Samedi" was an illegal name. Seriously.

I did see a dead on Bat-Man last night.

HemoGoblin is my current build. Super Jump isn't what it used to be. It seems to build up over time and be a little wild. CoH you could get to the point that you would land on the top of a light post from 500 yards. I'm not sure I could pull that off.

  9. To me it seemed to be an all instanced world, but I haven't gotten very far yet. Every time I zone it brings up a huge lists of instances of the mission zone I am doing. Looks alot like Huxley's system. I really hate instance world games. I guess its good if everyone is on the same server and has access to all the other people but you have to find them in that huge list of instances. I am guessing if you are grouped that helps but still cuts down on randomly meeting new people.

Also means its mostly a static world that never really changes. And if the server goes down, the game goes down for everyone. I guess one huge server farm is better than 15-20 smaller ones as far as them making it economically viable, but 4-500k people are still going to cause some serious load issues.

I tried most of the travel powers out. Eventually took the Teleportation. It was the most fun. Extremely fast and should work well in combat. The acrobatics were kind of cool, but some of the control was wonky and doing stuff in the air started to give me motion sickness.

First character is Daleon. PowerArmor, so kind of a mix of offense and defense. Took invulnerability as my first power. Should be decent for solo'ing. Prolly try out the dual blades and something else tonight.

I have got to make a bunny with the tunneling power. I can't help it.

I have to say there are a lot of interesting costume parts. You could easily make a fish or ape theme. The angler fish head piece was a little limiting.

I think I finally put my finger on what was weird to me. To me it seemed like the pace of the combat was frantic. Was it too many years in City of Heroes, so that I was completely tuned to the pace of every attack that every enemy would throw? That was causing me to not know what would come next, or was it just new enemies that didn't act like what I was used to.

The environment is more interactive than CoH, that is for sure. Being able to walk up to a fire hydrant and rip it out of the ground was satisfying. Though I couldn't pick up an armored car. I wonder if a stronger character could. All I could do was blast it to bits.

It feels like everything that was right with CoH combined with an experiment?

Couple of responses to yalls questions as I have played it a good bit now.

1st. For the costume options, everything you mentioned Brokentusk is on there, on the top left side of the character creation is ANOTHER pull down menu that you can select for example the pants option. Pull down and you have tights, jeans, shorts, bionics and skeletal items. Then you go below that and pick the hundreds of different options from there. Seems ALOT of people missed that 1st pull down option and then they thought how limited it is.

2nd. The travel powers are tailored around some of the more obvious PVP aspects, that way out of combat they actually build up and become more powerful so as to not be OP in PVP. Teleport seems to me to be the best in PVP as it allows you to make anyone that has you targetted to drop target after teleport, to balance that out you get a debuff that you cant transport again in 15 seconds if you try and teleport in combat. But still very powerful in PVP, the others make it so if you use abilities while in travel form it makes them cost more energy.

3rd. Yes most things you can interact with, and you can pick up the really heavy stuff such as cars, huge stones, and airplanes if your STR is built up to that level. So the tanking melee types can pick the heavier stuff up and the ranged guys wont be able too. Balances it so the melee guys can still do ranged of need be for pulling options.

4th. As far as the instances go, when in a supergroup or a team the instance with all your friends, teammates and SG members will be the 1st instance that comes up so you know where they all are at, if you dont chose instantly it automatically sends you to that one where they are at after 30 seconds. So its easy enough to find the people you are looking for, they dont have to tell you which one you are in. You can also instantly pick which instance you want to change to from any where in that area from a second pull down screen. Nice to find any friends, but also allows you to change if a certain instance is heavily camped for quests.

5th. The best feature so far is the free respecs you get in the powerhouse, when you first buy a power, skill, travel you can test it out anywhere in the powerhouse and then if you do not like it you can respec for free before you actually leave the powerhouse, so definitely after lev 5 when you have the first 4 choices, try them all out and DO NOT leave the powerhouse, this allows you to change until you find a power, or travel you really like. Once you do leave the powerhouse though it costs to respec those skills once you come back, but resources come really easy so it aint that expensive. Also there are 4 rooms to test each and every skill, power out in. One room has training and target dummies, another has lasers that do damage to test out blocks and shields, another has higher ceilings and platforms to test out travel powers and heavy blocks to test out the STR and throwing abilities. The last one has running targets to test out holds and CC abilities. This area was really well planned.

Any more questions, feel free to ask I have been getting a really well done grasp of things so far. BTW my in game name is @stonedv8, char name I am usually on is Judge. Thats another cool feature your login name is to the game is your /tell and /whisper name, so mine is stonedv8 and then all my characters are tied to it. This also allows for multiple names in game. SO there might be ALOT more Judge characters out there, but I feel like mine is best since it is customized and not based on any existing characters.

OK I will play with the character creator more. Knowing the CoH system it seemed weird to have what seemed to be such limited options.

I looked around tonight and saw regular cuffs so I knew they had to be there somewhere.

  13. The editor is not extremely friendly and still a little buggy. Multiple times last night I tried an option and it reported a bug.

Tried out dual blades. Pretty good damage, especially against multiple mobs. Doesn't have the defense to take on bosses very well though.

Started a gadget guy so I can make lots of those little toys, they look like fun.

I still think we aren't seeing all the cards on the table yet. Just some things that look like they are missing a complementary piece or tweak.

That would fall completely in line with what happened in the CoH beta. When it went live the costume options went up about 25%.

I think I'm going to try a steam punk gadget maker next. I found that giant rocket that straps to your back and it begs for it.

I do like editing my powers to be whatever color or originate from where you want on your body... Within reason people.
