Out of place, but while you're on the topic of D&D:

    Dugeons and Dragons is dangerous

Some of you may have seen it already, but I found it pretty funny..

  4. now thats funny as hell

  5. I used to have a 70s magazine type gamma world book. Played that game a lot (no, I don't know where it came from, I think the copyright date was a year or two before I was born).

Played DnD, ADnD, ADnD2, and recently ADnD3; Tried mechwarrior but never got a group together. Had a friend create a game called Third Millenium. That was awesome. Dabbled in Cyberpunk and some other car type game. I think that was the extent of my pnp games.

  6. Manitou

    Manitou Old War Horse DragonWolf

I'm not impressed with the game.
    - The interface is bulky
    - The graphics are blocky and stiff and seem out of date
    - The movement is difficult and hard to decipher

To be honest, I haven't even played it past the starting point, but I was so discouraged by the process of learning how to move and from repeated crashes I finally gave up.

    Manitou's rating:

  7. anyone have an extra cd key?? or an account they will not be using??

The beta is wide open now. So just head to File Planet.

Well I installed it. I played for a few minutes. Seemed like I would need to give it some more time to give it a fair chance.

However now the client lets me log in. Then it acts like it is launching the world. Then it minimizes to the tool bar and stares at me.

And since the FP testers are not allowed into the official forums. So I can't even see what the dealio is.

    I give it 3/10.

  9. It's still 5 days long, though...

I think that they're trying to appeal to all the hard core D&Ders out there who are sick of having the ability in most MMO's of carrying around 4 or 5 2-handed Axes of Complete Awesomeness with no penalties for movement.

  11. I should be on ddo later tonight, since I finished dl'ing the client.

Unfortunately I only get 4 days time playing, what with there being a 5hr time-difference screwing up the registrations

  12. I have the PCG "shot at the beta" from the Jan 2006 edition. If anyone wants the info PM me.

So does this mean there will be a CDL division for this game as well?

  14. Background - I've played pen and paper D&D since 1st edition and actually have the orignal blue and red boxes. I currently have about 2 bookshelves full of rulebooks and such from just about every offshoot that TSR did. I also have a few Shadowrun and GURPS books lying around.

I played the DDO stress test and while the game is pretty and ran smooth, I do have a relatively beefy system though (3.0 Ghz, 2 Gb RAM, GeForce 6800 with 256Mb Ram). The animations could use some work and the game reminded me ALOT of Guild Wars. You have the public areas, the towns with their taverns and shopkeepers, and then the dungeons are the smaller instances.

I found it odd that the game doesn't have half-elves, rangers, or crafting. It is also missing alot of feats and skills, that I would think would be easy to incorporate into an MMORPG. It is set in the world of Eberron, of which, I really have limited knowledge of.

Magic seems to be based on a magic point system instead of D&D's normal spell per day lists. I saw no mechanic for familiars or animal companions either, but this may be something that shows up later.

The combat is very action oriented with you being able to block and dodge out of the way. The instances seem to have great possibility for some truly interesting adventures. One of them had a cave-in/earthquake while you fight the instance's boss.

It still seems early in the game's development and I hope they don't rush it. It seems to have possibility, but slapping the D&D name on it jsut raises the expectations for me. Basically, in the pen and paper version - anything is possible, I want an MMORPG where the same rules (or lack thereof) apply.

  15. If there is enough interest in the game there very well could be. We will just have to wait and see.
