  1. Read back through the posts.

Hamma, you say he'll turn into a serial killer, Queen calls for castration, Swift calls for whipping, and Blackdrop goes off about the lottery.

So don't try to dump blowing things out of proportion on me. I'm just saying, of all the horrible things that can happen to a poor kid (including being made fun of at school), this one is pretty low on the list.

But I guess I am just a sick bastard because I do think it's freaking funny. Mean? Sure a bit. But then again I also enjoyed watching jackass and wild boyz which is basically grown men kicking eachother in the balls repeatedly.

Pulling a prank on your kid and posting it on the internet doesn't win you worst father of the year award in my book. But of course any comparrison I made to much worse things would be out of line.

For those of you with a similar sense of humor to mine (or degraded moral fiber if you are of that view) you may find the following amusing :)

  2. Maybe I can help here...
Razer, I *think* that the issue here (and people can correct me if I'm off base...) is that there is a sense of trust that a child has for its parent, and a premeditated incident such as that could break that sense of trust on some level for quite some time (or permanently). I've heard various things about when kids begin to develop memories, and perhaps in a few years he won't have a dislike for fathers but for computers instead.
    ;)

No, I did not find that post funny and I disapprove of that behivor, but that's just one facet of me.

    However -

I also agree with you that there are far worse things a parent can do to their child.

    (shrugs)

Sometimes its hard to keep things in perspective.

  3. Rayzer...it's in every post I've made for the past 5 years.

There is also, and correct me if I'm wrong, a *sense* of humor. And if a dad can't play a joke on his kid, who can. My dad and I have always messed around with eachother, I don't have any scares from my childhood due to the laughs we've had at eachothers expense, only fond memories.

You people seem to think that one little joke is going to scar a child for life and they'll never recover. If this kid can't get over a little joke like this, he's fuked in life anyway, cause I think everyone here would agree that we have all had a lot worse shit than this happen to us in our lives.

And if you haven't, thank whatever god you believe in.

I'd do this to my son (not my daughter mind you :p) And afterward, I would hope we could both sit down, laugh histerically at it, and both upload it to the internet together  Then I would watch my back, so he wouldn't catch me unaware!

  4. Let me tell you from experience, Yes, I do know about these things.

This is not something that a loving father would do to a son. He may love the child but how he goes about showing it is certainly suspect. Chances are Very high that this is not a solitary incident either. We can only guess as to what goes on behind the scenes, maybe nothing, maybe more of this kind of thing. What it does do is cause a very Intense and emotional break for the child, and when he asks for his dads consolance, all you can here is a snicker and giggle from the father. If my son had a bad dream, or a saw something disturbing, I would immediately focus attention on him, hold him, and discuss it with him. And If it was something I had inadvertantly caused I would do whats necessary to rectify it. Parenting isnt easy, but some common sense no no's should be a given. This was just simply wrong, and exploting it is what makes it criminal in my book. And yes, there is a possibility this could stay with the child for a very long time.

Sure, we are shocked when we watch it, amazed, and curious. This is the same type of reaction that has made Reality TV shows so popular. Its all trash in my opinion, and why I watch very little tv if at all.

If it was an older kid that would be another thing  But that guy is still a young'un he doesen't understand what just happened to him and the father is standing there laughing holding a camera :ugh: It's one thing to both joke around when you understand it is a joke but when you are young you really don't know the difference.

I've had my fair share of messing around with family so I'm not against it in teh least but this situation is a bit strange.

  6. Im alittle Old School on the Children Handleing.

I think its fine to Joke with Children but it has to be done with some sort of Cooth and common sense. I also believe in Spankings and the such as well. If the Child Does'nt get Toughened up at home alittle then how is he/she gonna coupe with real world pressures and problems. Jokeing with a child, or scareing is one thing and it can be done tastefully. I wont condem this father but i would not have done it in the manner he did. Anywho i guess alot of people on the forums will condem me because i do believe in Spankings, but i said spanking not beating there is a difference.

You know, for a long time I thought of actors as over-payed, glorified puppets who go through motions they're told to, and say lines someone else wrote, but I realize at this point in my life that their special abilities to play their roles in a compelling, convincing way has spared us all from a great deal of human suffering for the purpose of entertainment. Kudos to professional actors. <3

  8. Many professional actors come from dysfunctional families.
Many of them act as a means of Theraputic escapeism.

Many talented comedians developed their ability to make us laugh by joking their way through painful lives. The most gifted artists in the world usually know pain and suffering intimately. ...So I guess we're still watching human suffering, but on the healing end and perhaps we find some comfort in understanding each other.

  10. No, not my point at all. I'll give you an example, my Dad and I used to play around as well. There were jokes at April fools, the random freak-out, etc. Nothing that I would consider odd. My wife and I have both made the kids jump due to a "boo" scare... but, I didn't post it on the 'net, and I certainly wasn't taping it. Will the kid recover? Who knows - we're just guessing.

I'll give you another "close to home" example. My Dad worked to "toughen me up". He felt my aversion to bugs needed to be fixed (one of many things he 'fixed' for me growing up). He'd randomly hand me something in a closed fist - nothing odd, just Dad holding out his closed fist and requiring me to take whatever it was, or face the wrath of Dad. Could be anything from a dollar to a live bug that he just caught.

The result? I have to force myself to take things from people who innocently hand me something in a closed fist. I still hesitate for a second when my own kids hand me something.

One event? No big deal, although a little demented. Continuing it, well, that leads to other issues.

    My 2cp worth...

  11. Since when do Professional actors and Reality TV shows share any common ground at all?

    Professional losers maybe, yes.... :)

swifty, I was saying it's good that we have some convincing professional actors because it's probably spared us from more reality shows.
