  1. Has the US done things that it should not have done? Yes, to think other wise would be silly. To keep this thread going on what we have done bad is also silly. I do mean we, our 14th President (Lincoln) said it best about the government “and that government of the people. . .by the people. . .for the people.” People do make bad judgments and mistakes. The idea is to learn from those mistakes and do better next time, which is what we are doing in Iraq.

Yes the US didn’t approve the Versailles Treaty, because of the League of Nations. The reason the US didn’t invade Germany was because the US military at that time had been weakened from both international treaties and feelings at home that we should not become involved in other nation’s conflicts. There are lots of other reasons as well but to write a text book here would have you all a sleep. :)

Germany declared war on the US after we declared war on Japan after December 7th. Japan, Germany and Italy had become allies because of the Treaty of Versailles and little known arms control treaty to control the size and number of Battleships each country could have, mistakes not only from the US but the rest of the world.

After the attack at Pearl Harbor the US military and Government decided that it would never allow another surprise attack like that again. Rush forward to September 11th 2001 and after years of the CIA being rained in, the US military taking huge budget cuts even after the first Gulf War. The US was caught with its pants around its ankles. I think it was decided again that we need to take care of the left over issues and Iraq is one of them.

Where to next, North Korea, Iran or ?. The big question is going to be well these countries and others like them learn from what is happening. Only History well tell.
