Is anyone else hooked on the new Battlestar Gallactica?

  1. ORANGE

    ORANGE DragonWolf

Your right, maybe this is just me being a teenager talking but I think this version is much hotter. Just my two cents though.

  2. Its a cool show.. (im behind in the episodes due to diff showing times here and there)

atm im verey dissapointed in the lack of action (just got the enemy ship inside of the battle ship and working out how to controll it)

but its a great show :D

just off hand any one watch Stargate??

  3. BAH not saying she's not hot Denny.

I'm just of the age group that grew up watching the original and liked the original Boomer. Sure the costumes and effects were cheesy as hell but hey it was kick ass back then and still is.

  4. Stargate pwns...

For the past few months my friday nights have been dedicated to SG1, Atlantis, and Battlestar Gallactica friday night lineup.

Stargate Atlantis is probably the weakest of the three, but I think it has a lot of potential. I hear that SG1 is going to get some new characters and I wonder how that will pan out.

  5. Hot does not do justice to that chick. Uber goddess is more like it.

I got much love for old-school BSG (I saw some of the reruns back in the day), but I think the new show is going to make a much bigger impact on the sci-fi scene. If they develop the characters and plotlines enough, it could become a sci-fi juggernaut. Hopefully they can handle their early success well and build on it. With Enterprise getting cancelled something has to step up and represent.

  6. Atlantas has so much potential its not funny :p.. i just want to get that city put it in some water here throw some ppl and personal army on it and run the place for me self :D

  7. Atlantis is only worth watching for Rodney imho. It COULD be good, but Dr Weir is about the least inspiring person I can imagine and they keep doing stupid shit like letting religous zealots run off with a charged ZPM or trying to shoot down Wraith Darts with M240s and unguided AT rockets (or tell Teyla anything, for that matter.)

Not to mention the wraith are the anti-thesis of scary, they might as well be called generic_badguy_01. Both SG-1s are suffering for serious one-up syndrome as well.

  8. /agree rodney is probably the best developed character so far.

Dr. Weir sucks, I hope she gets captured by the wraith and turned evil or something. Better yet, the marines take over atlantis and Dr. Weir has to live with it (LOL).

Tayla rocks. She's almost as hot as Boomer in BSG. I just wish she would hurry up and shag major Sheppard. She could break that punk in two.

/agree that the wraith aren't all that scary. They should bring in the replicators or something. I just can't understand how the uber-race that defeated the ancients couldn't find atlantis in 10,000 years or even find another galaxy to feed on.

  9. ya, they had a comercial that showed one of the new cast members. It showed Ben Browder who plays John Crichton on Farscape. They didn't indroduce him, and he didn't say anything... he was just standing in front of the stargate. Could he be playing as John Chriton who made his way back to earth using the wormhole technology? Or as a completely new charecter? Heh, either way I am eagerly awaiting next season of sg1. SG-A on the other hand, I could care less.

  10. lol

Battlestar is great and it never was suppose to be the Orignal and i was a huge fan of the OG since it was my age group it was created in. All 3 shows have the good and bad places that need work but overall i like them all. THe new Battlestar is just another telling of the story not the orignal remade so i cut it slack in the fact the characters arent carbon copies. Just glad they are shows i like enuff to even talk about thats refreshing enuff in its own right.

  11. Teyla would be a good character except, whenever something bad happens (like, say, the wraith DNA episode, which I couldn't even bring myself to watch) and the asshole with the ponytail (who seems to be the only one who thinks things through logically) offers a good reason why she should be kept out of the loop, Sheppard just brushes it aside with "but this is TEYLA we're talking about" and is invariably proven right.

And hopefully Ben Browder can rejuvinate SG-1, I loved him in Farscape, but apparently the new bad guys are going to be other evil ascended ancients or something like that, which does not inspire confidence in me. To date, the only Goa'ould (spelled wrong) who has actually scared me (other then Ra, but I was ten or twelve when I saw the movie so he doesn't really count) has been Baal. But instead of going down the path of relatively evenly matched bad guys who will smile at you just before they kill you, they seem to be going down the path of bad guys who are just so hilariously powerful it would be virtually impossible to win an engagement with them once being soundly defeated weekly (ref: the borg on star trek, scary as shit in TNG, laughable joke in Voyager.)

  12. lol, that would be so funny :p

only problem with that is that he wouldnt have a code to get pass the irus so SGC wouldnt open it for him to come in...

  13. Well - i gotta say that that I'm a fan of all 3 shows. My schedule didn't permit me to follow them weekly like i had wanted to, and had to resort to dl the eps, but that was cool.

I'd have to say that SG-1 is still my fav - and I'll be very sad if RDA doesn't return for the next season. I think Ben Browder will be a good addition - and btw to Mold hes supposed to be a fighter pilot that helped defend SG-1 over the Antarctic outpost at the finale of s7 (which definately had some BA fx- i get psychd everytime i see it) who got shot down, but was promised any assignment of his choice upon his recovery (read it in the new stargate mag)

Anyway I agree that atlantis is kinda week, but think the characters are getting better. On the point of letter the ZPM go - the whole franchise has a tendency to seriously underman critical missions. I mean the whole premise of Stargate to begin with is kinda lame - 4 man teams recon entire planets??????????????????? At best they send 3 teams (12 men) on critical missions against both superior numbers and superior tactical assests.

Don't get me wrong - I love the show - but if SGC was going to hold Atlantis "at all cost" like the Marine Colonel said - they would have sent something like a division through - not a company or smaller size force that they show you. At the very least they wouldn't need Teylas peeps to man defense patrols like they did. - Anyway - it all comes down to budgets.

On BSG - like the show: Starbuck is less of a b*t@h as time goes by = good
Extremely lite on the action = not so good.
Finale= suprise action by Boomer = kewl but sad if she succeded

    Sry for the essay

  14. I'm actually starting to like her. She's no boomer, but I think she'll come along quite nicely.

I think BSG is light on action right now becuase they are trying to establish the personalities of the characters. They have a pretty large cast and a lot of personalities to develop (plus there will be more humanoid xylons that will have to fit into the mix). Developing those strong characters will build the fan base and make the show overall more interesting in the long run.

Think of it like Deep Space 9. Deep space nine took about 4 seasons to flesh out all the characters before they could introduce arguably the greatest TV scifi epic of all time: the dominion war. If DS9 had jumped right into the dominion war without developing all the personalities, it would be all action and no story.

*spoiler alert to those who haven't seen the finale*

Ok, first off, Cmdr. Adama can't be killed becuase Eddie James Almos is the first latino in outer space. Think of all the other sci-fi space shows, has there ever been a major hispanic character? Dude, the ACLU will put the hurt on the show if they write out Eddie.

I'm very, very curious if they are going to keep the Galactica version of boomer around. I think this may be the end of that version because her cover as a xylon is blown. Not only did she shoot the commander but starbuck saw her other copy. Hmmmmmm....

I really hope they find a clever way to keep both the Caprica version and Galactica version of Boomer around. I liked seeing more of her :D.

  15. Hmm...for myself I definately think that either Socar or Anubis were the better bad guys. I think that its too bad Socar had to die off as quickly as he did. The directors even decided to use the actor again - he's the same guy that plays Anubis under the mask.

I agree with you Denny - the lite action is fine w/me...but if i had to choose between the same show - the only difference being that more stuff and bad guys got blow up in cool ways- i will go with the action. I'm plain and simple a sucker for awesome special effects - especially when they involve spaceships.

Like most guys i'm just a little kid in a bigger body when it comes to some things.

  16. Anubis isn't scary to me for the same reason the wraith aren't. He is, quite simply, too evil/powerful for his own damn good. It's not some impressive feat that SG-1 wins, it's vaguely comical. It's comprable to say, in game terms, a couple units of militia hoplites slaughtering an army of Parthian Cataphracts, it would be a bitch to lose even if you tried.

Lite action = Win IMHO. I've got a computer and a broadband connection, I can easily match my explosion quota online, with the added fun that, occasionally, the good guys (i.e. me) get bitch slapped, because the other guy can shoot worth a damn. I'd rather have my TV shows focus on character development and interaction then a bunch of shiny muzzle flashes and explosions every week that everyone knows won't kill anyone important (good guys, that is) unless it's been so heavily advertised everyone already knows.

  17. With regards to the greatest scifi epic - while I think that the Dominion story arc was awesome, despite getting to see only a little of it - I don't think that it could compare to B5. Which, coincidentally *wink wink*, had a story arc similar to DS9...only it developed first.

Not nocking DS9 - like i said i thought the Dominion War was great. I just don't see how it could best B5.

Personally, the Shadow War > Dominion War

But that's just a B5 fanboi stating his case here.

  19. Word.

    :fozzie:

  20. The dominion war was a lot more intricate in terms of plot, and the battle scenes weren't made on a 486.
