    Okay, here it is... I have a friend I emailed this story to. She has a friend who lives near the guy at Eielson AFB Alaska. He replied filling in details of the bear story... here is the email the guy sent to my friend:

    Hey Dave
    This bear was killed by a guy who lives three doors down from me on Eielson AFB, he is in the 18Fighter Squadron. Ted (the kid who killed the bear) was hunting bear and seen him from 100 yards away on a Salmon stream and he shot him at ten yards with four shots to the vitals. Official weight by the Alaska Fish and Game was 1865pounds and 11 Feet tall. I seen the bear skull and there was not many rifles that would have made it through that skull. It is suppose to be one of the top 100 bears ever killed. NOW YOU KNOW THE TRUE story.

    I bet he used his F-18 to shoot it. Nothing like a few sidewinders to the vitals to stop a bear.
