Becuase a drink has booze in it and the one you holding doesn't. So unless it was Ice Tea, it's a Soda.

 

Drink refers to a liquid substance..

I'm gonna drink some water.

Kinda interesting word when you think about it.

 

When used as a nown instead of a verb it refers to booze.

"I need a drink"

 

Damn that was an intense run.. I need some gatorade or something else to drink.

 

If you are holding a gatorade and someone offers you a scotch you don't say, "no thanks I already have a drink" you say, "no, i'm a big pu$$y"

 

But that is a tansitive verb, not a noun.
