Fortunately, socialism will be relegated to the trashbin of history -- there aren't too many socialists left in the world.

Socialism/Communism are ideas that just flat out don't work (unless resources are infinite, but that's not happening any time soon ).

 

While strict applications may be going to the trashbin, that doesn't mean that certain aspects of those governing philosophies are not very much a part of governments currently in existence, including our own here in the US. Indeed, there are those who would adapt our government even more closely.

 

Sure, there are socialist overtones to most modern first-world governments. Our own as well, definitely -- individual/corporate welfare, forced public education, Social Security, prescription drug plans for seniors, and similar programs, all are vaguely socialistic in nature. I was referring more to strict socialism -- forced redistribution of all wealth/property and the like. Thankfully, the few people left advocating that system aren't taken very seriously.
