  1. In the spirit of peace, I'm through with this discussion. I'm afraid it is just too personal and too many people got hurt, whether it was meant or not.

 to everyone! I can't thing of any other group who could have a conversation like this for so long without war breaking out. You are wonderful people and I'm lucky to know you!

Can all of you not see this?

We judge each other so harshly. Can we not look at one another and say, "You are what you are,"? We have to label. We have to judge each other as wrong, ignorant, corrupt...

I think the original sin illustrated in the bible was man judging God to be untrustworthy. ...thinking he was holding out on us. Eating of the forbidden fruit illustrated man making his wishes known. Wish granted...monkey's paw style. Be careful what you wish for. You want knowledge? Here's a lesson you will never forget!

And here we are, still judging and still being judged by each other. Judgement is the root of all human suffering.

Indeed Sky - I personally an not judging anyone but there are some people in this thread whom refuse to see anything but their own way. This is the problem with modern religion and some churches.

  4. '...' speaks volumns in so many different ways, Hamma.

  5. Bretta,
How can you possibly compare Buddah to Jesus?
Buddah never claimed to be God nor know the way to heaven.
    Jesus claimed both.

Reading Bretta's post, I think the comparison being made between Buddha and Jesus is that their teachings have many parallels, and that they are both the central figures in their respective religions, not necessarily that they are exactly the same.

My apologies if I'm misinterpreting your post, Bretta...

  7. OK-hopefully that is it =)

  8. Bretta,
If you are a believer, why are you studying Buddahism?
Doesn't Colossians directly teach against this?
(Not trying to slam you here-just curious)

Maybe because *gasp* there are other religions out there, just because you are christian and think it's the only way doesen't mean others don't want to expand their knowledge about culture and religion. It's a big world, lots of people are here and many different ways of life. Looking into all sorts of history and culture is good for the human mind. Why hold yourself back ya know? ;)

  10. I think that same "problem" also covers every topic that was thrown out there in this thread as well Hamma.

  11. Hamma-
It's different than what you think. You're unable to understand b/c your not a believer. I have no problem studying other religions. I have studied about 10 to 15 of them. It is just that Bretta has said some contradictory things in her post if she has given her life to Christ. There are certain things that the Bible teaches against. You can't have given your life to Christ and then not believe what the Bible says. Why you ask, because Christ is "the Word" Like I said, I am definately not against studying other religions if you are Christian, you should not do it to become "enlightened" because there is no mystery to God, there is no knowledge to gain which makes you more closer to God or more spiritual than someone else. (There is obedience though)
I am just curious as to the purpose of Bretta's studies. Is it to defend the Truth? Is it to become enlightened? Is it to figure out what the Truth is? Just wondering... You can't give your life to Christ & then be searching for a different Truth. Why, you ask? When you give your life to Christ, you are saying that you believe Christ came and died for your sins, that He was crucified, and then God raised Him from the dead-3 days later. You are not only saying you believe this with your head, you are also asking Christ to be Lord over your life. (This is when the change in the heart happens)
You can't call Jesus you Lord, and then be looking for another Lord.... Jesus isn't your Lord then.

Just curious as to the reasoning that's all

Perhaps she is just doing what I said, expanding her mind. Just because you research something does not mean you are seeking the truth.

Does the bible prohibit someone to study something they are interested in too?

No I am more than willing to see other views and I often do - but religion is different, it forces you to abide to certain rules, especially christianity. So much for "free will" One of the many reasons I think reigion is such a waste of time. Organised religion is a mess and will be the destruction of the human race. It's fine for someone to believe something, and have faith in a god. Its another thing entirely to become organised and try to impose your beliefs on others, especially government.

  15. Contradiction. You've been saying over and over if you do not follow the bible word for word then you will burn in hell.

I don't know if you realize that, as to that bible you keep referring, you are only suppose to give your view of the Lord if someone asks you.

Bretta wasn't asking. You assumed and in that respect you feel you are more spiritual then her.

Your tone has been pretty defiant through most of this - you don't seem to understand that you can't take that approach with people that don't see eye to eye with you and your beliefs. It comes across as smug -whether you mean to or not.

This has been your contradiction from the start with your posts.

These people are not asking - they are giving their views on the same Lord that you worship. Since they are not doing it the way you believe, you are taking it upon yourself to tell them they are wrong.

...and Hamma this is what I meant by "the problem" and it goes along with everything that has been posted here and why we can't agree on anything as free thinking people:

    Abortion
    The Death Penalty
    Religion
    Politics

Everyone has come to their belief because something worked out for them that they benefited from or they agree with.

I quit smoking. I did it cold turkey. I tried the patch, I tried the gum, I tried weaning myself one day at a time.

The only thing that worked was cold turkey. That doesn't work for some people but the end result is the same - you quit the way you quit.

You believe the way you believe - the end result is the same: You are at peace with you and your God...and it's strictly between you and Him.
